Pediatric Dental Services

David Wilhite provides pediatric dental services for children and kids in the Plano, Texas area. Besides dental checkups for kids and routine teeth cleanings, our office also provides specialized dental service including:

Tooth Sealants

Dental tooth sealants protect teeth by filling in the areas vulnerable to cavities. Tooth sealants are made of a plastic resin, which fills in depressions and grooves in teeth. By filling in the crevices, teeth are less likely to trap food and plaque buildup. Tooth sealant lasts several years before it needs to be reapplied. During your child’s regular dental visits, their dentist will check the condition of the sealants and reapply them, when necessary.

Fluoride Treatments

After your child has received a professional cleaning, we will apply a topical fluoride treatment. During this quick procedure, fluoride gel or foam is applied in mouth trays, then held in the mouth for a few minutes. Fluoride has the ability to attract calcium to the teeth, which reinforces tooth strength. A fluoride treatment is a safe and effective way to prevent tooth decay, and especially beneficial for children.

Pediatric Pulpotomy

A pulpotomy is a dental procedure that treats infected tooth pulp. The pulp is in the center of the tooth and made of soft tissues. If the pulp is infected or irritated it will cause a toothache. Without treatment, infected pulp can cause a dental abscess. A pediatric pulpotomy removes the infected pulp, sterilizes, and seals the chamber of a baby tooth, often a baby molar. This is a very common procedure that can save a badly decayed baby tooth.

Additional Pediatric Dentist Services

We also offer tooth fillings, crowns, extractions, and bonding for children. As a pediatric dentist, Dr. Wilhite has the training and skills to handle any dental procedure or treatment for your child, with ease.
