What is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a disorder in which breathing stops and starts repeatedly. This condition can be very serious and cause many complications. Symptoms of sleep apnea include loud snoring, abrupt awakening from shortness of breath, waking with a dry mouth or a sore throat, difficulty staying asleep, tiredness, morning headache, and another person witnessing your breathing stopping. Those with these symptoms may have Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).

OSA is associated with many serious health issues including:

  • High Blood Pressure
  • Obesity
  • Congestive Heart Failure
  • Stroke
  • Diabetes
  • Fibromyalgia
  • ADHD
  • Teeth Grinding
  • Clenching Teeth

The standard treatment for sleep apnea is a CPAP machine, used while one sleeps. Although it is usually effective, many report they do not like the machine due to the noise or discomfort. Because of this, patients are less likely to use the device, rendering treatment ineffective. Those with OSA who do not seek treatment or don’t regularly use their CPAP device are at risk for serious health issues like heart attack and stroke.

If you have sleep apnea and are seeking an alternative treatment, Dr. Wilhite may have your ideal solution. Before starting treatment, he’ll need to confirm that the source of your sleep apnea is throat or mouth related. If so, you may be a candidate for the sleep apnea oral appliance.

Sleep Apnea Oral Treatment

Sleep apnea oral treatment begins with an oral appliance that works much like a retainer. It is worn in your mouth during the night when you are sleeping.

The device helps keep your air passages open. This allows you to breathe easier and get a full night of uninterrupted rest. Additionally, it helps to minimize your risk of serious health complications stemming from sleep apnea.

You do not have to suffer through sleep apnea; Dr. Wilhite can help you.

Sleep Apnea Treatment review kati

I have suffered from extreme TMJ for years. It was Dr. Wilhite that suggested I see a sleep specialist and I found out I have severe sleep apnea. My new dental appliance that Dr. Wilhite made for me is extremely comfortable and I felt relief in my jaw immediately. Thank you Dr. Wilhite.

Sleep Apnea Treatment review

Before receiving my sleep appliance I would wake up multiple times during the night and never felt rested. Now I can’t go to sleep without it and actually wake up feeling rested!! I am also able to remember my dreams when I wake up which never used to happen. I strongly recommend this appliance to anyone with sleep issues.

Sleep Apnea Treatment tina

I have felt run down and perpetually tired for the last few years. I associated it with parenting four kids and told myself to suck it up. Then, Dr. Wilhite asked me about many of my symptoms and recommended that we take a look at possible sleep apnea issues. I am happy to say that with his help and my new sleep appliance, I am no longer dragging and tired all the time! I’m so glad to have a dentist that truly cares about the wellbeing of their patients! What a huge difference this has made in my life and the lives of my family! Thank you, Dr. Wilhite!
